Communication Patterns

Through the lens of a scenario:

If the 8-year-old was refusing to get ready, their authoritarian parents would yell at them and continue to yell until they got ready. If the child continues to refuse and is crying or in distress, their parents would then threaten them with a punishment by saying, “If you are not ready by the time we leave, you will not be allowed to have any TV time for one month!”  The parent will not be satisfied and will continue yelling or shouting out punishments until their child is ready.
